Dengue is an acute febrile illness caused by the dengue virus (DENV), of which four serotypes are known (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, DENV-4). DENV is mainly vector-transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, with A. aegipty being the most important epidemic vector in tropical and subtropical regions.
